Electronics Technician

The electronics technician will be responsible for building electrical control wiring and modules for production laser systems and engineering/research projects. Other duties include troubleshooting and repair of components as necessary. Detailed duties include:

  • Build, test, troubleshoot, repairs and modify production and developmental electronic subsystems
  • Discuss layout and assembly procedures and problems with Electrical Engineer and Laser Engineers and draw sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
  • Recommend changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance as part of our Continuous Improvement program
  • Assemble experimental circuitry or complete prototype model according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components.
  • Check functioning of newly installed subcomponents during system integration, run tests or fault diagnostics on equipment to locate and address a problem, order parts if needed, and replace or repair parts, maintaining records of validity tests and upgrades performed
  • Maintain accurate records of builds, repairs, and tests performed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Basic understanding of electrical/electronics theory
  • Basic soldering skills – surface mount and through-hole preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring and assembly diagrams
  • Ability to work from simple sketches for prototype work
  • Experience with standard test equipment oscilloscopes, multimeters
  • Ability to work with various small hand tools/power tools to perform electrical/mechanical assembly
  • Experience using MS-Word and MS-Excel
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a team
  • Personable and friendly with good work ethic
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving electronics related system issues
  • Familiar with electrical assembly box architecture, with thermal management understanding
  • Associate’s degree in electronics or related field, and at least 2 years’ experience in a high-tech production environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the electronics and mechanical prototyping/manufacturing field
  • Expertise in high-voltage electronics assembly and troubleshooting
  • Experience building high-complexity, low-volume scientific instruments
  • Experience with some design and layout of PC boards
  • Experience with laser systems and vacuum systems
  • Experience with electrical drawing programs such as Altium
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field


Hours are Monday through Friday 8 to 5.

Job status is full time with a 90-day probationary period.

Inventory Support Specialist

Reporting – This position reports to the Inventory department manager.  

Receiving – Accepts and signs for deliveries from vendors, opens boxes and inspects contents of shipments. Checks shipping invoice to ensure all items are accounted for. Accurately receives items into ERP system. Tag and shelve delivery items in a timely manner. Processes returns for any defective or incorrect items daily as needed. Scan and file all receipt of delivery paperwork daily.

Purchasing – Ordering materials from build shortage reports, weekly inventory of Kitchen, Kanban and office supplies is required. These orders should be placed on an as needed basis. Requests from staff for specific items should be held and sent with the weekly order as needed.

Reporting Research – Weekly reports are pulled and assigned for research and correction. These reports require completion within the week they are assigned. Reports may vary per the needs of the department and business.

Parts Kitting – Generate work order pick lists and kit parts as needed to build in accordance with the schedule. Run regular shortage reports and prioritize addressing shortages in accordance with the build schedule. Issue additional parts as needed for builds and service

Shipping – Setting up and packing RMA and customer parts shipments

Required skills and abilities:

  • Exhibits the ability to use inventory software accurately and efficiently.
  • Exhibits the ability to take direction from department manager and follow all inventory process and procedure as instructed.

  • Prior experience with Materials Requirement Planning (MRP/ERP) software preferred

Electrical Engineer - Laser System Development

The Senior Electrical Engineer will spend the majority of their time architecting, designing, and prototyping control assemblies and subassemblies with analog, digital, and power distribution content for next-generation femtosecond laser systems.  Additional activities include  embedded and control software development, assembly, integration, and test documentation, supplier management, transfer to manufacturing, and troubleshooting complex electronics and system problems.

General Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree desirable
  • 2+ years of control and electrical system architecture and subsystem design and development for complex commercial or scientific instruments; laser system experience desirable
  • Experience coordinating development of firmware to control and monitor a number of optical and electrical components within one integrated system
  • Experience with entire product development lifecycle from design through prototyping, debugging and manufacturing phases
  • Experience meeting objective project timeline and costs
  • Experience managing electronic component suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Capable with LabVIEW for control software development
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving electronics related system issues
  • Experience developing assembly, integration, and test documentation and hardware specifications
  • Electrical assembly box architecture, with thermal management understanding
  • Experienced in analog/digital/RF low noise design, simulation and implementation
  • Substantial experience in power electronics
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Experience with Altium, Autocad, Solidworks desirable
